ertold Brecht was a German writer, poet, and stage director. Born in Augsburg on February 10, 1898, he died in Berlin on August 14, 1956. In 1933, he fled Germany and eventually ended up in the United States. Under the influence of the cold war, he was expelled from the United States in 1949 and settled in east Berlin. Here he was eventually allowed to set up his own theater company and even got his own theater.
This Berliner Ensemble still exists. And many of Brecht's plays are performed here. But not alone here. Dutch companies also regularly perform pieces by Brecht, which shows that Brecht's work is still up to date.

Many of his pieces are about oppression, in particular, of low-paid workers. This was important at the beginning of the 20th century and is now another major social theme. So go see those pieces or read his work!
